The Pavement and Materials section analyzes all problems associated with the pavement and its performance. Research is conducted on paving materials and the multiple factors that may affect the short-and-long term performance of these pavements. These factors include construction, weather, subgrade, drainage, and heavy loads. The Pavement and Materials section, along with the Transportation Cabinet, is not just concentrating on building longer lasting roads but are also evaluating delay time, increasing the contractor's responsibility for the end product, and reducing the length of construction projects through innovative bidding and construction bonuses for early completion.
