Highway Transportation

The Kentucky Transportation Center at the University of Kentucky serves as the research arm of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and its Department of Highways.  In addition, the Center works with other state agencies and units within the Transportation Cabinet including the Kentucky State Police and the Office of Highway Safety.  The Center also engages in highway related research of a regional and national scope, with funding from the Transportation Research Board (NCHRP) and from the USDOT (FHWA and NHTSA).  The state research program includes topics from areas including, planning and program development, project development, project delivery, system maintenance and operations, and management and finance. This research program area averages over $3 million annually and involves a 30 plus member cadre of research engineers and other transportation related professionals along with technicians and research support personnel.
