This research area focuses on innovations for bridges and other transportation infrastructure. Much structural research focuses on improving the design and to minimize cost and reduce safety risks. A primary focus of research includes applications of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites for construction and structural reinforcement. Work includes the structural testing evaluation, field seismic evaluations of bridges and embankments, investigations of voids and cracks in structural materials, impact investigations of barge, flotilla and vehicle on bridges and overpasses and implementing remote sensing and monitoring technology on structures.
