The Midwest Bridge Working Group (MBWG) is a successful forum for discussing bridge maintenance and inspection issues. The forum attracts bridge professionals from numerous state highway agencies, consulting firms, vendors, and universities. Discussions during the event focus on technical, political, financial, and best practices topics.
The MBWG forum meets once a year. The first day session consists of presentations on a variety of bridge topics. The second day session, which lasts a half day, includes a field trip to a local infrastructure project. Presentations are broadcasted live via internet by the ITI Research Engineering Group for people that are unable to attend.
From 1996 – 2012, MBWG was coordinated as a joint effort between the Kentucky Transportation Center (University of Kentucky) and the Infrastructure Technology Institute (Northwestern University). Since 2013, the Kentucky Transportation Center has been working with the Rahall Transportation Institute at Marshall University.
